The staged garden setting at the Banquet, arranged for a sangeet performance

Sangeet · South Kolkata

A sangeet is a performance,
not a dinner.

A sangeet venue on Rash Behari Avenue with premium staging, full AV and floor space for 150 to 700 guests. Evenings run later than our office hours.

The sangeet is not a Bengali ritual. It arrived from the north and Kolkata took to it, and now it is a normal part of a wedding week here without anyone pretending otherwise.

Which is useful, because it means nobody has to be precious about it. A sangeet has one job — the performances have to land. Everything on this page is about whether the room can do that.

A sangeet is a performance, not a dinner

Every other evening a banquet hall hosts is fundamentally people sitting down to eat. A sangeet is not. It is a running order, a month of rehearsals in somebody’s living room, cousins who have choreographed something they are nervous about, and a room that has to work as a stage and an auditorium before it works as a dining hall. Sightlines matter more than seating plans. That is a different brief, and it is worth saying out loud because most venues quote it as though it were a reception.

Staging, sound, and somewhere to stand

The Heritage Floor has premium staging already built in, and we have full AV capability across the venue. Tell us how many performances are running, whether anyone is using live music, and how much floor you need clear for dancing — we will set the room for the show rather than for service. If you want a rehearsal slot before the night, ask early; it depends on what else is in the diary that week, so it is a conversation, not a policy.

It will run later than our office hours

Our Google profile says 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. That is when you can reach us — it is not a curfew on your evening. Sangeet nights run later than that. We mention it because a family reading those hours on Google could quietly rule us out without ever calling, and that would be a bad reason to lose an evening we are well set up for. Tell us the running order you have in mind and we will confirm the timings for your date.

If you want a bar, the licence is yours to arrange

Alcohol can be served at a sangeet here, but the venue does not hold a liquor licence of its own — so the permission is one your family obtains for the event rather than something we sell you as a package. We would rather you knew that at the enquiry than a fortnight before the wedding, because it takes time to arrange and it is nobody’s favourite errand in the last week. Plenty of families hold a sangeet here without a bar at all and it is a good night either way. There is also a designated smoking area, away from the hall.

Questions Families Ask

Before you call

Can the evening run past 9pm?

Yes. The 9 AM to 9 PM on our Google profile is when you can reach us to enquire, not the end of your event. Tell us your running order and we will confirm timings for your date.

Can we serve alcohol?

Yes, if you obtain the licence for the event — we do not hold one ourselves. Start it early; it has a lead time. There is also a designated smoking area on the premises.

Is there a stage and a sound system?

Yes — premium staging on the Heritage Floor and full AV capability across the venue. Tell us the number of performances and we will set the room for sightlines rather than dinner service.

Which floor works best?

The Heritage Floor for most sangeets, at 400 to 500 guests, because that is where the staging is. The Grand Pavilion takes 600 to 700 across the whole estate. The Ground Floor suits a smaller family-only evening.

Can we rehearse here beforehand?

Ask when you book. It depends on what else is in the diary that week, so it is a conversation rather than a standing policy — but it is a normal request, and worth raising early.

What does it cost?

It depends on the floor and the date, and your own caterer quotes the catering separately per plate. Message or call with your date and guest count and you will have real figures in the same conversation.
