Aashirbaad · Engagement · South Kolkata
The first day both families
sit in the same room.
আশীর্বাদ
An engagement venue on Rash Behari Avenue, and neutral ground for both families. The Ground Floor for 150 to 200 guests, yours for the day.
আশীর্বাদ is the blessing — both sets of elders showering the couple with rice and sweets, after paka dekha has settled the match and the date. It is a small ceremony carrying a lot of weight, and it is the first time your two families are formally in one place.
Most venue pages treat an engagement as a miniature wedding and try to sell you the big hall. We would rather tell you what the day actually needs, which is a room that belongs to neither family and is the right size.
Paka dekha comes first
পাকা দেখা is the formal agreement — the groom’s family calls on the bride’s, the match is confirmed and the date is settled. Traditionally it happens at the bride’s home with immediate family only, and for most families it stays there, because fifteen people do not need a hall. The aashirbaad is the one that outgrows the flat. If your two families are doing both and want the second one somewhere neutral, that is the booking this page is about — and if you want to hold paka dekha here too, say so and we will talk about the smallest way to do it well.
It is normally held at home
An aashirbaad belongs in a living room, with both sets of elders and a lot of sweets. Families book a hall for it when the flat simply cannot take both sides at once — which is the actual reason most people end up on a page like this one, and which nobody writes about because it is not a glamorous reason. It is a perfectly good one.
Neither family should be the host
This is the first time both families are formally in one room, and where it happens is not neutral. Holding it at one family’s home quietly makes the other side guests on a day that is supposed to be equal. A venue solves that without anyone having to say it out loud — both sides arrive at the same door, and the staff belong to neither of you.
Keep it small on purpose
We will recommend the smaller room, which is the smaller booking, because it is the right answer. An aashirbaad is usually a fraction of the wedding — elders, immediate family, the people who matter enough to be there before the invitations go out. The Ground Floor takes 150 to 200. A hall built for 500 with 120 people in it feels like a rehearsal.
The sweets are not a detail
Rice, sweets, paan-supari, gifts passed between families — the exchanges are the ceremony, and they happen over food. That part stays in your hands: we do not provide catering, so you bring the caterer you want, and the vessels come from them. If your family has a mishti that has to be on the table, it is on the table because you arranged it, not because a panel menu allowed it.
On price. It depends on the floor and the date, and your own caterer quotes the catering separately per plate once the menu is settled — so there is no single number worth printing here. Message us with the date and roughly how many are coming and you will have real figures in the same conversation. If you are booking the wedding as well, those rates are published in full on the wedding venue page.
Questions Families Ask
Before you call
What is the difference between paka dekha and aashirbaad?
Paka dekha (পাকা দেখা) is the formal agreement between the families and the setting of the date, usually at the bride’s home with immediate family. Aashirbaad (আশীর্বাদ) is the blessing — both sets of elders, rice and sweets, and a much wider guest list. It is the aashirbaad that normally needs a venue.
Why book a venue instead of doing it at home?
Because both families are coming at once, and most flats cannot seat two families comfortably in one afternoon. It also means neither side is hosting the other.
Which floor do you recommend?
The Ground Floor for most engagements — 150 to 200 guests, the whole floor yours. The larger floors are there if both families together genuinely run to 400 or more.
Can we hold the engagement and the wedding here?
Yes. They are separate bookings on separate dates, often months apart. Send us both and we will check them together, and say honestly if one is difficult.
Do you cook, or do we bring a caterer?
You bring a caterer. We do not provide catering, and the vessels come from them as well, so the sweets that matter on this day are chosen by your family rather than by us.
What does it cost?
It depends on the floor and the date, and your own caterer quotes the catering separately per plate once the menu is settled. Message or call with your date and guest count and you will have real figures in the same conversation, not after a form.
Where exactly are you?
77C Rash Behari Avenue, Manoharpukur, Kalighat — on the main road, a short walk from Kalighat Metro, open 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM, all seven days.
Check your date.
Tell us the date and roughly how many are coming from both sides.
We will tell you whether it is free, and which room fits.
