Most wedding venue pages in Kolkata are written for the bride’s family, because the bride’s family books the wedding. Almost nobody writes for the people booking the bou bhaat — and they are a different family, on a different day, making a decision of their own.
This page is for them. If you are the groom’s family, the reception is not the second half of someone else’s event. It is yours, it is usually the larger evening, and it deserves to be planned as its own thing rather than inherited.
It is the groom’s family’s day
The wedding belongs to the bride’s family. The bou bhaat belongs to yours — it is where the bride is formally introduced to everyone you know, and for most groom’s families it is the bigger of the two evenings. That is worth saying plainly, because a lot of venues treat the reception as an afterthought to the wedding booking and quote it like one.
The guest list is wider than the wedding’s
A ceremony is family. A bou bhaat is family plus the colleagues, the neighbours, the friends of forty years and everyone who will ask why they were not invited. Count that list before you choose a floor — it is the single most common place a reception goes wrong, and a hall that is comfortable for the wedding can be uncomfortable the next night.
The food is the ritual, not the backdrop
At a bou bhaat the ceremonial moment is the bride serving rice to her new family. Everything else in the evening arranges itself around eating. That part is yours to control: we do not provide catering, so you bring the caterer you want and the vessels come from them. There is an open rooftop where your caterer can cook and set up live counters, and the booking runs a full 24 hours.
If the wedding was somewhere else
Plenty of families book only the reception here, because the wedding happened across the city the night before. That is a normal booking, not an awkward one — you do not need to have held the ceremony here, and we will not ask you to justify it. Catering is separate, per plate, once you have chosen the menu — so you see both numbers before you commit to either.
Count the wider list first. Most families planning a bou bhaat land on the Heritage Floor or the Grand Pavilion rather than the Ground Floor, because the guest list is the whole circle rather than the wedding party. Tell us your number and we will be honest about which room will feel right — a hall two-thirds empty photographs worse than a smaller one that is full. Is the reception a separate booking from the wedding?
Usually, yes — two different days, two different families hosting, often two different venues. If you want both here, send us both dates and we will check them together.
Can we book only the bou bhaat if the wedding is elsewhere?
Yes, and many do. You do not need to have held the ceremony here.
How many guests should we plan for at a bou bhaat?
Usually more than the ceremony. A bou bhaat introduces the bride to the groom’s whole social circle, so colleagues, neighbours and the wider family come. Most families end up on the Heritage Floor at 400 to 500, or the Grand Pavilion at 600 to 700. The Ground Floor suits 150 to 200.
Will another event run alongside ours?
Another function may be running in the building at the same time as yours — we have more than one space and they can run side by side. What a floor booking gives you is that floor: the hall, the dining area, the suites and the staff on it. If you want the building to yourself, the Grand Pavilion books all three floors plus the rooftop — say so when you enquire and we will tell you what your date allows.
Do you cook the menu, or do we bring a caterer?
You bring a caterer — we do not provide catering, and the vessels come from them as well. There is an open rooftop where your caterer can cook and set up live counters, and the booking runs 24 hours with our staff on site throughout.
What does a bou bhaat cost here?
A reception is quoted at the same rate as a wedding: from ₹1,00,000 for the Ground Floor, ₹3,00,000 for the Heritage Floor and ₹3,50,000 for the Grand Pavilion. That is the venue. Catering is separate, per plate, once the menu is chosen — so you see both numbers before committing to either.
